IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wibert Wendell
Lucas
August 24, 1953 – September 15, 2023
And God shall wipe away all tears from your eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.
(Revelation 21:4)
Wilbert Wendall Lucas, affectionately known to close Family as "Honey Bun" and "Honey Boy" was born August 24, 1953 to the late Helen and Raleigh Lucas, Sr. in Bogalusa, LA
Wilbert attended Poplas and Central Elementary, Central Memorial High and Bogalusa High School where he was a graduate of the Class of 1971. While in high school, he was a member of the dynamic Central Memorial High School Spartans marching and concert bands where he played brass instruments all four years. After high school, he attended Southern University where he studied Electronics prior to enlisting in the United States Army and served in the U.S. and abroad.
Wilbert was employed as a letter carrier, mail handler and equipment operator for the United States Postal service in Houston, Tx and North Carolina. after retiring from this field, he was employed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in New Orleans, Hammond, Dallas, Tx. he was a medical support assistant at Va North Texas Health Care System in Dallas then transferred to New Orleans and continued in that position until his death until God called him home.
Wilbert received his religious training from early childhood at St. Paul A.M.E.Church of Bogalusa, La. He united or joined various churches including the potter's house and end times disciples of Dallas,TX.
Wilbert was an avid sports fan! his favorite football teams were the New Orleans saints and the Dallas Cowboys. this pastime of enjoying the games was shared by many as they watched and talked about what was transpiring on the gridiron.
Being the baby boy of the family, Wilbert took advantage of his rank. He was very small in size but that didn't deter him from trying to outrun and out tackle those on our block. when things didn't go his way on the basketball court in our yard, he would take the ball so no one else could play. he really played into his role with our brother, Odell. he knew when Raleigh, Sr. said no, he just went to the one with Jr. to get what he wanted....even the driver's license. He was one you could depend on to tell you the truth even if he knew it could get him in trouble. our block was comprised of mostly cousins....this expanded our territory of where we could play and get punished. we became sister/brother cousins became that's how we were raised. The Lucas, Thompson, Evans bond remains as one until this day!
Wilbert is survived by two sons: Trinni Wendell (Pomai) Lucas of Poulsbo, Washington and Jared (Simone) Lucas of Houston, Tx. eight grandchildren: Amonte D. Lucas, Trinni Lucas, Tatiana Lucas of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tyrell Powell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., Landon Lucas, Ahmir Lucas, Nilah Lucas, Jaydence Lucas of Houston, Tx; two brothers: Raleigh O.
