Obituary

Sidney Stevens, Jr. was born on April 23, 1952 in New Orleans, La. to the union of the late Sidney, Sr. and Olivia Lewis Stevens. He departed this life to be with the Lord on February 9, 2013, in Lake Charles, La.
At an early age, Sidney, who was affectionately called "Steve,"joined the Israelite Baptist Church, and was a faithful member who continued his strong worship from youth through adulthood. He was an active member of the Adult Sunday School Class, Bible Study Class, and Vacation Bible School. Becoming more deeply rooted in his faith, he became an Associate Minister at the Israelite Baptist Church. Rev. Stevens was a 1970 graduate of Burgher High School in Independence, La. He had a love of sports, and played on his high school varsity football team.
After graduation, he attended Southern University in Baton Rouge where he received a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting in 1976. He continued post-graduate studies at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond where he received hours above his B.S. degree. He enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces and Served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Livingston Masonic Lodge #160, and was employed several years by the Tangipahoa School System until his health declined.
Rev. Stevens was united in holy matrimony on August 17, 1996 to Glenda Adell Young. To this union, one daughter, Stephanie Catherine-Olivia Stevens, was born. He was a devoted father to his step-son Glennis Earl Mckelphin, Jr. Later, residing in Bogalusa he united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Aaron J. Thompson, Sr. and Assistant Pastor, Rev. Jerry S. Young. At Bethlehem, he participated in Sunday School Class #7 and the Tuesday Night Bible Study Class. Rev. Stevens was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Olivia Stevens; brothers, Jimmy Anderson, Phillip Stevens, and Craig Stevens; mother-and father-in-law Sidney and Catherine Young; and brother-in-law Rev. Jerry S. Young.
He leaves cherished memories with his wife, Glenda Young Stevens of Bogalusa; his daughter, Stephanie Stevens and a step-son, Glennis Mckelphin, Jr. of Bogalusa.; two brothers, Gean Stevens of Independence: Milton L. (Vergie) Stevenson of Kenner; two sisters, Patricia S. Jackson and Elaine Stevens of New Orleans; a brother-in-law, Sidney (Barnia) Young of Downington, Pa.; sister-in-laws, Jenet (Adam) Patterson and Orseola Young of Bogalusa; an aunt, Janie Robertson Johnson of Oakland, Ca.; godchildren, Sabena Stevenson and Brad Hills; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will Friday, Feb 15 from 2-5p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 12 noon at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Rev.Larry Magee, Officiating. Interment Big Zion Cemetery in Roseland, La.
