In Loving Memory of Shirley Burns
Shirley Burns, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished member of the Bogalusa, Louisiana community, entered eternal rest on October 15, 2025. Born on October 2, 1945, to Gertrude and George Burns. Shirley devoted her life to her family, friends, and the community she so deeply loved
Shirley's legacy of love lives on through her daughters, Schandra Burns (Derrick Parker) and Deandra Burns, and her cherished bonus daughter Marie Lockhart (Shannon Lockhart) of Bogalusa. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Gertrude Tonette Burns and Sylvia Ann Sheridan (Sean Sheridan) as well as her parents, George and Gertrude Burns.
Shirley's greatest joy in life was her family, and her steadfast love will be remembered and treasured always.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted sister, Cheryl Denise Burns of Bogalusa, sisters, Rita Weary of New Orleans, and Carolyn Chubbs of Long Beach California, and her special brother, Sean Lemar Smith of Bogalusa, she is also survived by brothers George Kenneth Burns of Cape Coral, Florida, and Ralph Burns of Bogalusa.
A proud grandmother of ten, Shirley's grandchildren, Kenneth Burns, Laschandra Burns, Kentrell Burns Sr, Ashley Burns, Keionna Burns, Tiffany Burns, Tedesia Burns, Shunice Sherdian, Darriyona Whittine, and Kameron Burns brought immeasurable joy to her heart. She was blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren who will carry forward her enduring love and spirit.
Shirley's warmth and generosity extended beyond her immediate family. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and dear friends whose lives were profoundly touched by her kindness. She was known for her gentle strength, her unwavering faith, and her abundant love for those around her. To know her is to know she spent her Wednesdays devoted to the Prayer Band.
Shirley's presence will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of all who were privileged to know and love her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cook-Richmond Funeral Home 638 South Columbia Street.
