Sherrill Young was born to the union of A.Z. Young and Maxine Young on November 7, 1946. Her mother, Maxine departed this life when Sherrill was three years old.
A.Z. Young later married Dorothy Brister Young and Sherrill was reared by them. Sherrill never let anyone forget that she was the oldest grandchild. She grew up in Second Baptist Church. She attended school in the Bogalusa City School System. After graduating from Central Memorial High School, Sherill went on to Southern University.
She spent a great deal of her life in Oakland, CA. and worked at the University of California at Berkley. After a long period of illness, she decided to move back to Bogalusa where she spent her final years. When Sherrill returned she became a member of New Triumph Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor E.L. Powell.Sherrill was preceded in death by her parents; A.Z. and Maxine; grandparents; Della Stubbs, Alberta Young Magee, Grandfather: Eddie Young, Sr. uncles: Jim Meyers, R.T. Young (Elizabeth), Eddie Young, Jr., Roscoe Young, Sr. (Hazel), Willie Young, Joeseph Young (Nercile), Henderson Young and Obie Magee, Jr. Aunts: Ezzie Ruth Smith, Dolly Lewis, and Dora L. Veal.
She will be fondly remembered by her stepmother Dorothy Young; her adopted brother Ricky Young; Aunts: Gaynell (James Gholar); Annette Young, Aline Young. Uncle: Gary C. Magee (Helen); other relatives and close friends, and the Class of 1964.
A woman has fulfilled her purpose in life when she has lived well, loved much, laughed often, served faithfully to mankind, and gained the respect of those who knew her. Her love and inspiration lingers with all she touched along the way. Let us remember Sherrill in that manner.
