Mr. RT Mingo was born in Marion County, Mississippi to the late Isaac Mingo and Oneida Ball on March 23, 1934. He departed this life on Monday, December 1, 2013 at
the AMG Specialty Hospital in Bogalusa, Louisiana.
He joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. E.G. McEuen. He began singing at home with his siblings. He came from a family of songsters. He graduated Marion Central High School. He moved to Bogalusa and in 1956 he met and married Edna Mae Keys and to this union one daughter was born. He served in the United States Army for three years. When he returned he lived in New Orleans, LA where he married his second wife, Thelma. To this union three children were born. He was a member of the quartet called "The Mighty Chariots" where he sang bass. He worked as mason for many years, where he became a foreman and at some point owned his own masonry business. He remained in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina caused his move back to Bogalusa, where he resided with his daughter. Later he chose to move to Rest Haven Nursing Facility where he met and humored many people. His nickname at Rest Haven was "Supervisor" because he let them know whenever something was array. He was such a people person that everybody loved him. He kept them laughing and he will be truly missed by both staff and residents. Also at Rest Haven, he cultivated a garden, which he was so very proud. His favorite sayings were "For Show" and when he thanked you, he would say "Thank you and Thank God", "Thank you completely."
He leaves to mourn his passing seven daughters: Missionary Carolyn Mingo Turner of Bogalusa, LA., Shonda Howard, Evangelist Donaldson, and Sameria of New Orleans, LA., Stacy Howard-Johnson of Slidell, LA., Christina Howard of Houston, TX., and Cheryl Mingo of Chicago, IL.; three sons: David Howard, Keith Donaldson, and Cal Ray Donaldson. Another daughter, Kim Howard, he reared as his own. Three step children: Gisele Lee and Kenneth Mingo of Bogalusa, LA, and Nina Mingo of Joliet, IL. He leaves 72 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Four sisters: Rosie Lee Jenkins of Bogalusa, LA., Nettie Faye Bridges of New Orleans, LA., Versie Robinson of La Place, LA., and Eliza Jefferson of Mary Esther, FL.; One brother, Peter M. Bridges of Minnesota, and a host nieces, nephews, and friends; two special friends, Buck Buchanan and Lashie Boy Brice.
Visitation will be Friday December 6,2013 from 2-6p.m.,Family Hour from 6-7p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home Chapel
