Rosalind Young was born the last child of four children, to the proud parents of Climel and the Late Dorothy Young. Rosalind was not only the baby, but she was the only girl. She had three big brothers. Of course, this was a set up for Rosalind to grow up0 feeling very loved and cared for by both proud parents and big brothers. Some would say she was spoiled.
Rosalind obtained her formal education form Varnado High School, where she graduated with honors. After high school, she attended Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in Hammond, Louisiana. After a brief but insightful experience of college life, Rosalind quickly decided that it was not for her. She came back home and begin pursuing a career.
Rosalind began working for the Washington Parish Deputy Sheriff, as a D.A.R.E. Officer. She worked there 18 1/2 years, until her health failed and was no longer able to. Rosalind excelled at this, and had the honor of being the only African American female in her class to successfully complete the Police Academy, including the Firing Range. It brought Rosalind great joy to teach life lessons to all of the children she taught. She loved serving the families of the Washington Parish community, many of whom were family or close friends.
Her other pride and joy were her two boys, Acey and Creshard. She was a serious and very active mother. She supported both Acey and Cre in all of their activities, both in school as well as extra-curricular. Her support would sometimes become embarrassing to Acey when she would be in the stands at one of his baseball games. She sure could get loud. Because Cre was more comfortable in public speaking, her support of him would be expressed differently. But you can best believe she was the proudest in the room whenever Cre spoke.
Rosalind grew up attending Mary's Chapel UMC, and brought both her boys up being active in Mary's Chapel as well. Rosalind did as all of the family did, she served where ever she was needed or told to serve. She sang in the youth choir growing up, and transitioned to the adult choir as an adult. She attended Sunday School regularly and supported all of the worship activities of the church. Rosalind's love for God was evident, whether she was in a worship service, or bound to the confines of her house.
Rosalind was preceded in death by her mom, Dorothy B. Young. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Acey & Creshard, her father, Climel, three brothers, Stanley, Lawrence, and Climel Jr., two god-sisters, Tanula Owens and Tammy Sartin, as well as host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Rosalind's contagious laugh will be remembered by all of us who knew her.
