Phyllis Lenora Morris was one of nine children, the eldest daughter born to the late Lonnie Morris, Sr. and Juanita Sam Morris on November 14, 1950 in Independence, LA. With an open heart and willing spirit, she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the early age of seven by the late Dr. Ivy Williams, Pastor of Pilgrim's Rest Missionary Baptist church. This was a spiritual moment vividly etched in her mind as a treasured experience of the presence of the Holy spirit and the outpouring of God's love.
She attended Varnado High School where she excelled academically and graduated Valedictorian in 1968. She pursued higher education and took the opportunity to attend Louisiana State University and later
Southern University of New Orleans, graduating with honors.
Phillis enjoyed a thriving career at Martin Marietta, held administrative roles in government affiliated organizations, and was actively engaged in various business venture, including real estate. She traveled and lived in various parts of the US. Her family focus and career endeavors led her to ultimately reside in Texas joining her family in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. She will be remembered for her love of reading, her passion for knowledge, unconditional love, and her generous sharing of her time and talents.
Phillis was a committed daughter, loving sibling, devoted mother, doting grandmother and a mentor and confidante to many. She was the proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren: Leon Clark, Leah Clark, Phillip T. Rollins, Leila Clark, Joshua Rollins, and Gabrielle Rollins.
Phillis was affectionately called "Boss Lady" and "Leno". It was well known that she had a gift for being able to see what was needed, getting "OT" done, and never missing even the smallest or most important of details, to make good things happen greatly. She could be counted on to BE THERE when you needed someone most. Her mother and sibling were close to her heart. Her dear brothers and sisters are: C. Linsey Myres, Lonnie Morris, Jr., Jimmy Morris, Sandra Morris-Moore, Bert Morris, Hazel Morris-Gates, Frank Morris, and the late Lawrence "Shorty" Morris, Sr. She was always joyful when she was surrounded by family and creating an atmosphere of love, laughter and fun-filled memories. Phillis was preceded in death by her father, the late Lonnie Morris, Sr., when she fondly cherished.
Phillis was survived by her mother, 8 siblings, 3 children, 6 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
