Mr. Oscar Lee Moses the oldest of three children born to the parentage of the late Mr. William Moses and late Mrs. Savannah Peters Moses Hatcher in Varnado, La. He was born December 12, 1933 and on March 25, 2012 about 10:30 a.m. there was a need for a soldier in God's Army and he answered the call and didn't hold back, he went to be with the Lord.
Oscar as a youth joined the Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church where he was active in the choir, M.Y.F., Sunday School where he was very active even until his health failed and was unable to attend. As an adult he was also faithful in his duties as a class leader, his number was #8.
Mr. O'Moses's educational life began with Jones Creek Elementary School, Wesley Ray High School and on to graduate from Southern University at Baton Rouge, where he received his B.A. in education.He was married to his high school sweetheart Mrs. Ossilean Walker Moses on January 9, 1954, this union was blessed with five children, but their home was a home away from home to many.
Oscar served his country during the Korean War and after his tour of duty he returned to his hometown and taught in the Washington Parish School District. He was employed by what was then known as Crown Zellabach for many years until he retired in 1995, so he could relax and fish.
Preacher was a name many of his friends gave him, because he was a constant reminder to them of the importance of going to Sunday School and church, he wanted them to always remember where their help came from "The Hills From Above".
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Moses and Savannah Peters Moses Hatcher, step-father Johnnie (Jack) Hatcher, his son Argell M. Moses, Father-in-law, Argell Walker and Mother-in-law, Ethel Sheridian Walker, one sister Margie L. Moses-Johnson and one brother Clemeal (Shorty) Hatcher.Oscar who was also called "Preacher and O'Moses" memories will be cherish by his wife
of 58 years Ossilean Walker Moses, his children; Gilbert Moses, Rev. Malcom (Donice)Moses, Oscarleen Leevet Moses-Carter, Creed Moses and Arthel Mechel (Ronald) Folks.
Six sisters; Lucille (Rev. Llewellyn) Nichols, Faye Parnell, Ella M. (William T.) Foster, Jr.,
Glen Jefferson, Mary May and Mary L. Keaton, two brothers Freddie Moses and Booker T.Hatcher. A special grandson Tasmon Myles who was reared by his grandparents, a special niece Xylona Carrier who looks fondly upon the aunt and uncle, godchild Ratiff Magee (Tiny) Nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A host of nieces,nephews, cousins, other relatvies and friends.
