Mr. Eli Powell

In Loving Memory of Eli Powell

Eli Powell was born on September 18, 1951, in Monroe, LA, to JT Powell of Columbia, LA and Effie Dumas Powell of Rayville, LA, He was the fourth of eight children.

Eli accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of New Bright Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L. Martin. He graduated from Richwood High School with the Class of 1969.

At just nine years old, Eli went into the cotton fields to earn money to buy his school clothes. Even at a young age, he had a love for fashion. He had an eye for style and could put on a suit like nobody else. That love for fashion remained with him throughout his life, and he became well-known for always being one of the sharpest-dressed people in the room.

In 1971, Eli began working for General Motors in New Jersey. In 1976, he transferred to the General Motors location in Monroe, LA, where he continued his career until his retirement in 2006.

Eli had a love for sports, music, fashion, fishing, dancing, cooking, and, most of all, family. He was known for being the life of the party and could bring laughter and joy wherever he went. Eli had a kind heart, an authentic comedic spirit, and a generosity that made people feel welcomed and loved. He especially treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren and creating memories with the people he loved.

Eli was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2026. His presence, laughter, style, generosity, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

He was preceded in death by his parents,

JT Powell and Effie Dumas Powell; his brothers, Emile Powell, JT Powell, Michael Powell, Johnny Powell, and Troy Powell; and his special aunt, Mattie Mae Clark.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Candice (Jamal) Richmond of Covington, LA, and Elise (Ira) Allen of Monroe, LA; his sister, Neomi P. Scott of Monroe, LA; his brother, Charlie D. Powell of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren, Cameron, Jordan, Payden, Camille, London, and Lexington; his great-grandchildren, Solana and Cameron Jr.; and a host of cousins, extended family members, and close friends who loved him deeply.

Eli Powell leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, family, faith, and style. He lived his life authentically, loved his family deeply, and never needed a reason to make those around him smile. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
