The morning of October 22, 2016, Deacon Milton Jerome Short passed away at Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans, LA.
Milton Jerome short, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Cheater", was born to the late Tome and Elnora (Fields) short on January 19, 1945 in Bogalusa, LA. Jerome attended school in the Bogalusa School System and was a proud member of the Class of 1964 Central Memorial High School - Mighty Spartans). Upon graduating he began working at the Sherwin Williams Paint Factory in Slidell, LA for several years until he gained employment at Crown Zellerback Paper Mill for 28 years, until his retirement due to illness.
Jerome became a member of New Triumph Baptist Church at the age of 18 and was a faithful servant and laborer, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer of the Brotherhood and most importantly, he was ordained a Deacon on May 28, 2005, under the leadership of Pastor E. L. Powell.
Jerome had a great love for fishing, hunting and repairing lawnmowers. He was a proud member of the Central Memorial High School Spartans Football Team as an Offensive Lineman. He was a diehard Pittsburg Steelers and Alabama "Crimson Tide" fan. Jerome loved to cook, especially his famous gumbo.
Jerome leaves to mourn him, his soulmate and dedicated wife of 38 years, Georgia Lee Randolph short; four sons, Jerome (Donna) Graves, Desoto, TX, Roy Short, Bogalusa, LA, Duane (Bianca) Short, Bogalusa, LA, and Brandon Short, San Diego, CA. Ten grandchildren: Jeronica, Jalen, Jakeithon, Zion, Zavion, Tristan, Olivia, Trey, Zanara and Branden; one great grandchild, Janiya; three step grandchildren: Jasmine Manning, Joseph Crutchfield and Kevin Crutchfield; two brothers: Willie (Pamela) Short, Alexandria, LA, Donald (Charlotte) short, Reserve, LA; four sisters: Sadie Tate, Bogalusa, LA, Annie Smith, Slidell, LA, Adrean Graves (Willie) Batiste, Bogalusa, LA, Dr. M. Denese (Walter) Bridges, New Orleans, LA; two brother-in-laws: Daniel (Dawn) Callum and Willie Johnson; two sister-in-laws: Mary Ann (Jerry) Kelly and Sue Brown.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents. Tom and Elnora short, father-in-law and mother-in-law, J. C. and Mina Randolph; three brothers: Curtis, Tommie and Fermon Short; two sisters: Gloria Dyson and Josephine McClain.
Jerome also leaves to mourn him two special nephews (sons); James "JJ" (Malissa) Tate, Eric (Vanessa) Smith; three godchildren, Kimberley short, Jasmine Pack and Caitlyn Lusk; two daughters of love, Latesha Simmons and Shannon Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
