Marguerite Arnelle Mondy Thompson was born March 29th 1937 to Pedro Mondy and Hessie Robinson Mondy, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Marguerite was the thried oldest of six children: Doloras, Irma Jean, Elmer, Ivy Regena, Rhonda and Mitizi. Her father, mother, and sisters, Doloras, Irma Jean and Ivy Regena her in death.
marguerite was raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana until the age of 13 when she moved to Compton, California where she lived with her Uncle Malachi and Aunt Rosalie Mondy.
Marguerite attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, CA in 1955. After graduation, she attended a local Beauty College and received her Beautician license in 1957. She practiced her craft until her retirement in 2013 as owner and operator of Unique Hair Fashion in Compton, CA.
As a child, she was baptized and raised in Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church in Varnado, LA. During her years in Los Angeles, she joined Hamilton United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend Doggett.
Marguerite met her future husband, Kenneth Thompson as a teenager, living across the street from each other on Grape Avenue in Compton. They were married in 1959 until his death in 2007. From this union, Kenneth Thompson, Jr was born in 1962 and Rodney Thompson was born in 1966.
Marquerite started showing off her beautician skills at English Square Hair Salon, in Los Angeles. She built a reputation as one of the best hair stylist in Los Angeles. She was blessed by building a clientele tht followed her from English Square to her kitchen on Burris Avenue in Compton to her final stop when she opend up Unique Hair Fashion on Compton Blvd and Burris Avenue in Compton. She was the untimate "DO IT ALL WOMAN". She worked from home while raising her two young sons, frying the bacon and some hair too!
Marguerite spent her adult life enjoying her roles of wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, all the grat nieces and nephews, in-laws and her friends in California and Louisiana.
Marguerite was called home on Wednesday, August 20, 2014surrounded by her loving family.
Marguerite leaves to cherish her loving memories her children, Kenneth Thompson, Jr (wife Virginia) and Rodney Thompson (wife Karen); Brother, Elmer Mondy (Teri Bennett), Sisters Rhonda Gaillard (husband Andre) and Mitzi Cunningham; her grandchildren, Brittany, Brandeis, Kenny, III, Rodney, Jr., LA'Toya, Ls'Rodtiera, La'Porscha, La'Neiasha Thompson and great grandson Ian Thompson. close friends Leslie Kellum-Addison and Betty Dorsey, special nieces and nephews, In Laws and a host of cousins and very loyal friends.
Funeral service was held Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 am at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, CA, Pastor Victor J. Green Officiating.
