Spikes
September 3, 1949 – April 29, 2024

Leverne "Big Woody" Spikes was born on September 3, 1949 in New Orleans, LA. He passed away on April 29, 2024 at his residence in Bogalusa, LA., He was born to the union of PK Spikes and Lena (Morris) Spikes. He was the fourth child of sixteen children, eleven daughter and five sons. Leverne graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1969. At the age of twenty, he was drafted into the armed forces. Leverne was a proud veteran, he was wounded in combat in the Vietnam War. He valued this service highly and was awarded a purple heart. Levere also served 20 years in the National guard before retiring, Later, Leverne served the Bogalusa Police Department where he achieved Lieutenant status. He later retired after 22 years of service. Being in the Armed Services was just part of who Leverne was throughout his lifetime. He worked with then Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) where he mentored and coached little league baseball.
LT. Leverne Spikes was preceded in death by his parents, P.K. and Lela (Morris) Spikes; five sister, Diana, Anita, Joanne, Irma Spikes and Irene Wilson, two brother, Richard and Ellis Leroy Spikes. One daughter, Keosha M. Spikes. Two sons, William Foster and Jonathan C. Roberts, One niece, Tandra Brown.
He leaves to morn in his passing, his wife, Laura Roberts; six children; one son, Demond Spikes of Denham Springs, La and five daughters, Tanya Taylor of Franklinton, La, Shalon Brumfield of Memphis, Tn, Kela Spikes of Madisonville, La, Keiarra Spikes of Covington, La, Keshayla Spikes of Bogalusa, LA; ten grandchildren, Porsha and Whitney Taylor, Giovanni and Giovante Turner, Zariana Bickham, Ashley Guillory, Dylan Davis, Elijah Foster, Benji Holmes, Elvin Lockhart; nine sister, Jerrie(Alvin) Pichon of Emeryville, Ca, Carolyn(Donald) Jones of Baton Rouge, Rev. Dr. Katherine S. Robertson of Bogalusa, La, Shirley Jackson of Bogalusa, LA, Commander Arnetta (Ron) Spikes-Taylor of Virginia Beach, Va, Yvonne Paige of San Leandro, Ca, Linda (A.C.) Spikes Wilson of Angie, LA, Clementine Nicholas of Varnado, La, Sarah Roberts of Bogalusa, LA; three brother, Willie (Shanice) Spikes of Bogalusa, La; and a host of great grands. Other who will cherish Leverne's memory are a special cousin, Earnest (Stephanie) Spikes, and two special friends: Kelton Johnson and Benjamin Holmes
