Obituary

Deacon Louis Gene Harris, age 87, went to be  with his Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, on September 24, 2020.  Deacon Harris was born in Magnolia, Mississippi on November 24, 1932, to the late George Harris and the late Netha Pittman-Harris.  He attended school in the Pike County Mississippi School System.

At an early age, he joined the Mars Hill Church of God in Christ and remained a member there until he moved to Bogalusa, Louisiana. After he moved to Bogalusa, he joined  the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado, Louisiana under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. A.S. Nelson and served faithfully until the Lord called him home.

As a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, he served as Church Treasurer and Deacon.  He also served as a member of the Church Brotherhood Association and on many other church committees.  For many years, he also served as the Treasurer of the Second Springhill Sunday School Association.

Deacon Harris united in Holy Matrimony to the late Etta Mae Brumfield Harris on February 9, 1963.  During their 52-year union, four children were born including Louis Patrick Harris, Carolina Mechell Harris Gardner, Henry Miro Harris, and Barrical Lynn Harris.

He has one adopted son, Tyren J. Harris, and two daughter Patricia Ann Lewis, and Robin (Charles) Lundie.  He also raised two of his grandchildren, Royce Harris and Brandon Morris.

Family members, who precede him in death, are his wife, his parents, his son, Jimmy Harris, and his six siblings Lee Daniel Harris, Henry Harris Sr., Will Harris, mammie Harris Winding, Mary Harris Carter, and Laverne Harris Davis

He leaves a great legacy and memories to one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-laws, six children, eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He retired from the Bogalusa Community Medical Center, (now Our Lady of the Angels Hospital), where he worked for thirty-nine years in the maintenance department and as a porter-messenger.  He loved to fish, hunt, farm, and laugh with his family and friends.  He also loved to work in his yard, make syrup, drink coffee, and raise hogs.
