Louis Charles "Bubba" Avery was born on Sept. 15, 1920 to the lat James Avery and Lettie Avery and died Friday, Dec. 1, 2011.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was decorated with Asiatic Pacific campaign medals, two Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, V.F.W. Ribbon, Marksman with Rifle and Ammunition Worker-901.
He leaves to mourn his memory two daughters, Gloria Avery and Sandra "Alton" Peters; six grandchildren, Loretha, Patricia and David Avery and Darrick, Jalisa and James Peters; five great-grandchildren, Courtney Forrest, Vedora Avery, Buren Reed, Ja'niyah Slaughter and James Peters Jr., all of Bogalusa; close friends, V.T. Jackson and Hattie "Johnny" Dillon; devoted nieces, Loretta, Luberta and Diane Bunch; a devoted cousin, Theresa Ross; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James "Lettie" Avery; his wife, Mary "Bee Bee" Avery; and two children, Louis Charles Martin and Diane Avery.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home chapel at
2 p.m., with Rev. Christopher Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Bogalusa Cemetary.
