Moses
September 1, 1933 – March 8, 2025
Leon Moses, affectionately known as Dusty, he was a friend to all. Known for his stories and infectious personality, Dusty never met a stranger.
He was born on September 1, 1933 to Harrison and Margret Moses in Varnado, Louisiana. He joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at early age under the guidance of Rev. B.B. Moses. He continued to faithfully serve under Dr. A.S. Nelson. Dusty graduated from Wesley Ray High School and joined the United States Army. After his discharge, he became an activist and a Deacon for Defense to help bring racial equality to the Black community of Bogalusa and the neighboring cities.
In 1962, he married his loving and devoted wife, Emma Lou Moses. They were married just shy of 49 years when she passed away in March 2011. He was employed offshore with Chevron for many years until he retired. He was also a barber who was a staple in the community and a mentor tp other young up and coming barbers. Dusty was a sweet soul with a huge heart. His larger than life personality and his ability to make you laugh earned him lots of praise and admiration. His love for his family was ever present and was always deeply felt. He gained his wings on March 8, 2025 leaving a beautiful legacy.
He leaves behind to continue that legacy, a son, Broderick (Nicole) Moses, his daughter, Tosha Moses-Flores,and son Phillip Dexter. His grandchildren, Trinette (Derrick) McGowan, Leonard (Tameka) Moses, Ericka Moses, and Kamerhon Moses, Brayden Flores, Micah Flores, Emmaleigh Flores, La'Tisha Barnes. His great grandchildren, Ka'Zavion McGowan, De'Shundra McGowan, Derrick McGowan, Faniya Moses, and Kenna Showell. Artis Evans and Mary Ann Nichols, whom he considered his bonus children. His loving god daughter, Karen Graves. In-laws Oliver (Barbara) Preston, Joyce Preston, and many other friends and family members.
