Obituary

Lawrence "Shorty" Edward Morris, Sr. the beloved son of the late Lonnie Morris, Sr. and Juanita Sam Morris, was born on October 26, 1951 in Independence, Louisiana. He accepted the Lord at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend A. L. Owens, Pastor- where he was active in Sunday school and Baptist Training Union. He graduated from Wesley Ray High School in 1969. Shorty knew at an early age the importance of setting goals, and making plans to accomplish those goals. He started working as a stock clerk and cashier for Officer Charles Pope at the tender age of 12. After graduating from high school he relocated to Chicago and worked for two years. He later moved back home to Varnado where he worked at Crown Zellabach for 8 years. After the big layoff at the "box factor", he worked for Martin Marietta Aerospace at NASA- New Orleans, Louisiana for twenty-seven years (June, 1978) as a Lead Mechanic on the Thermal Protection System (TPS) until he retired due to his illness in 2003.

Lawrence was very brotherly, compassionate, gracious, generous, and had a smile that was charming and friendly. Shorty always tried to keep peace and harmony in his surroundings. His hobby was fishing, raising pigs, planting produce, and sharing the produce with everyone. He loved to bar-b-que, and have family gatherings. He often said that "you have to treat everyone the way that you want to be treated". He loved to close his visit be it over the phone or in person with "I Love You More". He was a dedicated father to his children, his grandchildren was the sparkle in his eyes, a loyal brother, and a respected uncle.
