Obituary

God gave the gift of life to Julius Leon Jackson on March 17, 1947. Julius was the thirteenth child born to the union of the late Webster Jackson and Rachel Harvey Jackson, both of Sandy Hook, MS. Affectionately known as "J. L." to his family and friends and "Jack" to colleagues, Julius transitioned to God's eternal glory from this life at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, LA on February 22, 2017. At an early age, he joined Sunlight Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, MS and later became a watch care member at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church.

Julius received his early education at J. J. Gullege High School in Tylertown, MS. After the passing of his father and mother, Julius relocated to Bogalusa, LA. He attended Wesley Ray High School in Angie, LA, where he met his queen for a lifetime, Shirley Martin Jackson. J. L. was a member of the basketball team and a 1966 graduate.

Julius proudly enlisted and courageously served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, Korean conflict and general stationing in the United States. While in the Air Force, Julius attended Washburn University in Topeka, KA where he studied electrical instrumentation and mathematics. while in the military, he became fluent in five foreign languages and fluently spoke Vietnamese, Korean and Spanish.

In holy matrimony, Julius married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Martin Jackson, and this union was blessed with three children and seven grandchildren.

Julius touched the lives and upbringing of Kyran Martin, Duncan Moore-Howard and Claretta Peters, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, godchildren, Pamela Officer, Goldia Deloach, Jonathan Spikes, LaRonda Robinson and a hos of other relatives and friends.

Julius was preceded in death by his parents, Webster and Rachel Harvey Jackson, seven sisters: Mazie McGowan, Daisy Peters, Annie Bell Jordan, Ida Martin, Lisa Jackson, Lorena Jackson and Vessie James and four brothers: Jason Jackson, C. J. Jackson, Jessie Jackson and William Jackson.

Julius leaves to treasure his memory, his beloved and devoted wife, Shirley martin Jackson; two loving daughters: Belinda (Jimmie) Shropshire, Cashanda (Brian) Nichols, and one son, Julius L. Jackson, II; seven grandchildren: Cardez Jackson, Jaden Foster, Tiara Jackson, Jalisia Jackson, Aryanna Nichols, Bryanna Nichols and Juliana Jackson; two special brothers-in-law, Luther W. Martin, Jr. and Steven Martin, I.
