On Wednesday evening, October 29, 2014 at North Oak Medical Center in Hammond, LA, Joel Dyson departed this life on earth.
On November 16, 1961 Joel was born to the late Alphonce Dyson and Shirlene James Dyson in New Orleans, LA. He was reared in the Community of Bolivar, LA and was educated in the Tangipahoa Parish School System, graduating from Spring Creek High School.
At an early age he joined the Union Chapel AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Clarence Young.
He united in holy matrimony to Lakeitha McCallister, to this union five children were born and he reared one as his own.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Lakeitha Dyson, four sons: Skylard McCallister of Wilmer, LA, Joel Alstephen Dyson Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, Stgerling Dyson and Samuel Dyson of Wilmer, LA: two daughters: Sable (James) Dyson Bickham of Kentwood, LA, ShiAnn Dyson of Wilmer, LA; five grandchildren: Aniyha, Skire, Jeremiah, Serenity, and Bailey, his mother, Shirlene Dyson of Kentwood, LA; two sisters: Willie Mae (Windell) Cutrer of Roseland, LA and Phyllis (Earl, Jr) Brumfield of Kentwood, LA; two brothers: Rex (Shirri) Dyson of Baton Rouge, LA and Anthony Q. Dyson of Kentwood, LA; his grandmother, Delettie W. Coon of Kentwood, LOA, five uncles: Vance (Lyndia Nell) James, Angus (Faye), James and Wilton (Mary Frances) Dyson, Jimmy James, Brian Keith James and Alberet (Debra) James; five aunts: Helen Ann James, Pat James, Ella Mae James, Betty Strigus and Doris Dyson; a special friend and caretaker, Kenny Mason and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandfather, Chester James, paternal grandparents, Arthur and Harriett Brumfield Dyson.
Visitation was held Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in the chapel of Cook Richmond funeral Home in Franklinton, LA. Funeral Swervice was at 11:00 with Rev. Sherman Berry officiating. Interments Union Chapel Cemetery, Kentwood, LA
