Obituary

Brother J.D. Godbolt, Sr. was born to the late Benny and Lillie Godbolt on May 1, 1918 in Kiln, Ms. Early in life, the family moved to Jackson, Ms. where he spent his youth. Later, J.D. relocated to Bogalusa at the age of 16.
He became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.D. Burns. J.D . loved his church and was a faithful, dedicated member. He served diligently with the missionary society and anywhere else he was needed.
As a young man, JD resided in Baton Rouge, La where he attended Southern University's Tailoring School. After completion, JD decided to join the army where he served for a short period. After his tour was completed, JD returned to Bogalusa and was employee with Crown Zellerbach. He was the 1st African-American supervisor appointed in 1968, where he served on several unions and committees.He leaves to cherish his memories: a brother Ricky Godbolt of Los Angeles, Ca.; his children, Barbara Norris, Shirley Holloway, J.D. Godbolt, Jr., Lamont Godbolt and an adopted son Trevor Godbolt all of Bogalusa, La. Cheryl (Greg) Mason, of Atlanta, Ga.; Alfred Brown of New Orleans, La.; daughter-in-law, Brenda S. Godbolt of Bogalusa, La; God-son, Derrick Smith of Bogalusa, La; 27 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren. And a host of neices, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Benny and Lillie Godbolt; his step-mothers Willie Mae and Grace Godbolt; his wife Louise Smith Godbolt; son, Ellis Godbolt, Sr and Benny Godbolt; daughter-in-law, Jaqueline Godbolt; son-in-law, Donald Norris; grandsons, Ellis Godbolt, Jr and Calvin Short; Uncles, John Haney, Harrison Godbolt,George Godbolt; Aunt, Mazie Godbolt; Cousins, Johnnie Mae Fields, Mammie Godbolt Martin and Hazel York.
