Irene Burrell Crumedy was born April 28, 1914 in Sandy Hook, Ms. To the late Calvin Burnell and Cardelia Ploughman. She united with Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Preston Booth and accepted Christ at an early age.
Here she remained until she moved to New Orleans and united with Beulah Land Baptist Church. After several years in New Orleans she returned home and reunited with Pilgrims Rest. She remained a faithful and ardent member.
She affectionately called "Big Momma" by her grands and "Mamma Rena" by her church family.
Sister Irene loved her pastor and members, and we also loved her. She was quite a loveable person and was ready to help any auxillary whether in word or deed. She attended Sunday School and Church every Sunday. She was a regular tithe prayer and a monthly supporter of the Building Fund.
After the demise of her husband, she moved to Bogalusa, La. with her daughter. She was in New Orleans with her granddaughter, Shirley Warren (Kevin) and family at the time of her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Crumedy, three brothers; Ellis Burrell, C. Burrell and John Burrell; three sisters: Eula Newkirk, Beatrice Lewis, and Gladys Williams; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish memories, three children: Juanita Warren of Bogalusa, La. R.S. Jimmy (Janice) Burnell of Houston, Tx. And Bobby Jackson of Baton Rouge, La. Three sisters: Rosaline Abram of State Line, A.L. Lilly Bell Crumedy of Baton Rouge, La. and Ora Mae (Sherman) Peters of Slidell, La. One brother Claude Burrell of Angie, La. and a very special great-great grandson (Djimon) and great –granddaughter (Icilyn) 62 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 67 great-great grandchildren, 1 great great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.Visitation will be Friday, October 7 at Cook-Richmond from 2-6p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, Oct.8 1p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
