Sister Hazel Shanks Garrett was born to the late Ina and Julius Shanks on November 7, 1930. She was born in Oskya, Mississippi and raised in Franklinton, LA. She attended school in Washington Parish. She was one of twelve children.
Sister Hazel met and married Odell Garrett, to this union five children were born. She became a member of member Midway Church of Christ Holiness USA (COCH USA), shortly after marring Odell. Hazel worked at Oakhill Nursery for several years. She was later employed by Washington Parish School System as a bus driver for over twenty-three and one half years util she retired.
Sister Hazel served faithfully in certain auxiliaries of the church for many years. Sister Hazel was a member of the CWWW Band, Christian Women Willing Workers, Senior choir member, Sunday school member and President of the Usher Board for many years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Maelena Brown (Calvin) Oklahoma,City, Wendell Garrett (Ruth) Folsom, LA., Bennie Garrett, Folsom, LA., Easter Robinson (Bryant), Hammond, LA., Broderick Garrett (Veronica) Folsom, LA., seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Two sisters Fannie Handy, New York, and Odelia Burris
