Georgia Marie Smith humbly gave a silent sigh and went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, August 12, 2011. She was the youngest child born to the late James Lester and Helen Clark Smith on February 8, 1952 in Bogalusa, Louisiana.
As a young woman, Georgia held various jobs but retired after 30 plus years from South Central Bell as a Telephone Operator. She was baptized at East Jerusalem Baptist Church in Lee's Creek before moving her membership to Thirkield United Methodist Church. While at Thirkield United Methodist Church, Georgia worked tirelessly as Chairman of the Worship Leaders, Sunday School Superintendent, served as a Trustee and held a host of other positions. In addition, she was an active member and held various positions of service in Martha Court No. 2 Order of Cyrene, Esther Court No. 9 Heroine of Jericho, and East Gate No. 5 Order of Eastern P.H.A.
Georgia leaves to cherish her memories: Four children, April (Chris) Inman of Katy,Texas, Paris G.(Shamecha) Smith of Bogalusa, Louisiana, Barry Smith of North Hollywood, California and Carla Smith of Houston, Texas; two living siblings Freddie Smith of Bogalusa, Louisiana and Rose Ann Kinchen of Denham Springs, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, Christen Angele Inman, Parrish "Bubba" Spikes, Nicholas Garrard Smith, Jasmine Renee' Smith, Paris "PJ" Smith II, Deven James Smith, Shane Jonathan Brake-Smith, and Courtney Marie Bankston ; one special aunt Nellie Rose Sanford, one special uncle Horace Clark two dear cousins Rev. Regina Burks and Patricia Mack; one lifetime friend Wilda Faye Peters in addition to a host of other relatives and friends .
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lester and Helen Clark Smith, and one brother, James Monroe Smith.
Visitation will be Friday, August 19, 2-6 Family Hour 6-7p.m. with a Eastern Star Presentation starting at 6p.m.at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 20 at Thirkhield U.M.C. 11a.m. Rev. Louis Smith, Officiating. Interment Duffy Cemetery.
