Obituary

Edward Powell was born on April 20, 1926 in Bogalusa, La. to the union of the late Marie Powell and the late Katie Banks Powell. He was the first of three children. He was called from his earthly labors on Monday, August 2nd , 2010 at the LSU Community Medical Center in Bogalusa, La. After a lengthy illness.
He was currently residing in Washington, D.C. at the Armed Forces Retirement Home. He was also a member of The Stanley Chapel there where the Chaplain is Chaplain John Goodlae.
Edward was the kind of man that loved all of his family and friends, especially his twin nieces, (Doris & Delores) whom he would tell (You girls Are My Heart-You Know")
He loved to travel and had done so extensively. He would say, " Uncle Sam has afforded me the opportunity through the Air Force to see so much of the world that I never would have seen otherwise."
Edward served 30 years and made a career in the United States Air Force earning such medals as the UNSV-Service Medal, The EAME-Campaign Ribbon, with one Bronze Star, The Asistic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon & The Good Conduct Ribbon, The Army of Occupation Ribbon in Japan, The Victory Ribbon, 2 overseas Service Bars, The AFLSAW14 Bronze OLC September 4, 1965. On October 20, 1975 he was advanced to the grade of Tech Sargent on the United States Air Force Retired list for completing a total of 30 years active duty (service) plus service on the retired list on October 19, 1975.
After returning from the USAF he then become employed by Eastern Air Lines where he worked for 17 years and then retired.
Edward was preceded in death by hoth his parents and his two brothers, Nilo Powell and Willie Moris Powell.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two neices (Doris Powell Dawson (L.C. Jr.) of Bogalusa, La. and Delores Powell Morehead, Jordan (Bishops A.V. Jordan) of McComb, Ms. Two Great nieces, Kimberly Dawson of Bogalusa, La. And Trainee Morehead of Mount Vernon, New York; One great nephew (L.C. (chip) Dawson III (Wanda); One sister-in-law who loved him dearly Frances Powell (Marshal) Powell Magee of Bogalusa, La; One very good friend and care-giver Arlene Lewis whom he became very attached to; one good friend and homeboy Leonard Montegue of Washington, D.C. formely of Gloster, Ms.; A host of very special relatives and friends.
