Deaconess Dorothy J. Cotton was born on September 16, 1944 to the late Otha and Nettie M. Foster. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at her home.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. a. L. Owens. She was an active member of the senior choir while leading her favorite song, "GOD IS." She was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Senior Mission and was a mentor for The Young Discipleship.
She received her elementary and high school education in the Washington Parish School System graduating from Wesley Ray High School. She was a retired dialysis tech.
She met and married Glenn Cotton and to this union four children were born. Two preceded her in death: a stillborn son and Glenn D. Cotton, Jr.,Devon R. Cotton and Barbara C. Taylor. They divorced after nearly 30 years of marriage and then reunited on June 17, 2014. This was a God send. Glenn worshiped and waited on her every beacon moment and whenever she called. God always has a way of working things out for our good.
She was preceded in death by her oldest two sons, her parents: Otha & Nettie foster, a sister, Helen (Isaac) Peters; two brothers: Otha Foster, Jr. and Edward (Barbara) Foster. Father and mother-in-law, David & Bonnie Mae cotton. Two sisters-in-laws, Deborah (Eddie Lee), Earlean (Willie B.); six brothers-in-laws: Curlie (Claudette), Otis Cotton, R. J. Weary, Cory Harry, Felton Foster, Sr., and L. B. Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Glenn cotton of Varnado, LA; a son, Devon R. Cotton of Varnado; a daughter, Barbara (Reginald) Taylor of Arlington, TX; six sisters: Elaine Morris, Odessa (Amos) Peters, Carolyn (Levon) Harry, Beverly Harry, and Brenda Thomas all of Varnado, LA, Edgie (Charles Alford of Hammond, LA, three sisters-in-laws: Bonnie Foster of Varnado, LA, Doris (Mike) Jason of Alexander, LA and Verlean Jackson of Bogalusa, LA; 14 grandchildren. 16 great grandchildren, a special nephew, Rev. Dr. Wilbur (Cynthia) Morris and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her New Zion Church Family.
