Obituary

Cynthia S. Johnson was born to the late Henry and Vernell Cleveland Strong on September 15, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York.  Cynthia was the second oldest of four children.

It was in Goose Creek, South Carolina that she was captivated by a young naval sailor, Johnnie L. Johnson and on December 21, 1970 they pledged their love to each other in Holy Matrimony.  The Newlyweds moved to Louisiana where Cynthia was lovingly accepted into the Johnson Family.

Cynthia accepted Christ at an early age, where she learned the importance of being a servant.  She served in many capacities as a member of Butler's AME Zion Church under the leadership of former pastor Rev. Dr. Francis Williams and present pastor, Rev. John Forbes.  She served faithfully as Secretary of the Trustee Board, Usher Board, Jr. Usher Board Coordinator, and the local district Penny Brigade for the Roseland District.

She was employed at the Quality Grocery for several years as a cashier and later was employed with the Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court Offices as a Deputy Clerk and retired as supervisor of the Criminal Department after 34 years of dedicated service.

Cynthia embraced life and lived it to its fullest.  She will be remembered for her contagious smile, her joyful spirit, love for dancing, bowling, traveling and making her famous strawberry jam.  Cynthia's love and devotion to her family and friends will be greatly missed.

Cynthia's memories will forever be cherished by her loving husband of 49 years, Johnnie Johnson, three daughters, Ivy Hughley-Towns (Roosevelt), Wendy Johnson Dargin and Camera Johnson;  one son, Steven Lyons Sr., a loving sister, Jacqueline Foster (Raymond Sr.), one uncle Jonathan Prioleau (Ollie Mae).
