Obituary

"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep."

Coy J. Callahan, Jr., was granted his angel wings on Thursday, February 12, 2015, following a lifelong illness. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Coy had touched in some small way throughout his short, yet memorable life. Coy J. Callahan, Jr., was born March 21, 2005, to Coy J. Callahan, Sr., and Dawn L. Harris in Slidell, Louisiana. He was lovingly known as C. J. to family and friends.

CJ began his education at Abney Elementary and transitioned to Central Elementary, where he was a very smart fourth grader. CJ had big dreams. He would always say, "I'm going to be a Rapper and Producer." He even wrote his own skits about his adventures with his sidekick, his little sister (Amour). He loved the color red, playing basketball and listening to the music of Michael Jackson.

Although CJ's illness made his appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. When CJ was having a bad day, he converted into the Red Power Ranger -- Jason, which gave him great strength. Despite the obstacles he had to overcome, he kept a smile on his face and could sometimes be quite bossy. CJ's life may seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understand the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives, he will forever be our exceptional "Angel."

CJ is survived by his loving parents, Dawn L. Harris and Coy J. Callahan, Sr.; sisters, Aurora Williams and Amour c. Harris; brother Jamarcus Callahan; maternal grandmother Rose Cossey of Houston, TX; maternal great-grandmother Ruby Harris Craft of Bogalusa, LA; paternal grandparents Billy Ray and Deandra Callahan of Covington, LA; aunts, Sanchia Bryant of Baton Rouge, LA, Courtney Bajile of Covington, LA Vernita Magee and Samantha Magee of Bogalusa, LA; uncles Billy Ray Callahan, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, Tarrace Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA, and Christopher Callahan of Covington, LA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Paw Paw, James Cossey and one uncle, Tarrance Magee.
