Claude Henry Burrell was born in Varnado, LA on August 12, 1914 to the late Calvin Burrell and Cardelia Plummer Burrell, the fifth child of eleven children. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the faith where he served as a faithful soldier for the Lord.
He lived in Washington Parish for one hundred and one years. He retired from Crown Zellerbach in Bogalusa after 30 years. He loved agriculture and livestock. He tilled his land until two years ago, growing vegetables and sharing with his family and neighbors, which he enjoyed.
Claude Burrell was married to the late Estella Myres Burrell for 30 years until her death in 1970. He served in the military of the army in 1938 in World War II.
On Thursday, February 25, 2016, in the early afternoon, the Angels very quietly, came and removed him into Heaven, from Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, LA.
Claude leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted niece, Eveda Clayborn of Angie, LA; three sisters: Ora Mae (Sherman) Peters of Slidell, LA, Lillie Bell Crumedy of Baton Rouge, LA, and Rosa Lean Abram of Stateline, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and other relatives.
A viewing will be held Friday, March 3, 2016 from 2 – 4 pm at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements. A wake service will be held from 6 – 8 pm Friday at the Pilgrims Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Angie. A viewing will be held Saturday, March 5 from 9 – 11am followed by the funeral service at 11am at Pilgrims Rest with the Rv. Sidney Burns, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Dillon cemetery.
