Charles Anthony Martin, Sr. was born on December 9, 1958 in Bogalusa, La. Charles was the sixth child born to the union of the late Luther Martin, Sr. and late Rovella Harry Martin. Charles went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2013.
Charles was reared in Wesley Ray United Methodist Church, since birth. He joined Wesley Ray U.M.C. at the age of twelve, in 1970, during an Easter Sunrise Serviced and actively participated in the church confirmation, youth department/Sunday School and youth choir.
Charles attended Wesley Ray High School and graduated from Varnado High School in 1976. Charles was extremely active in athletics and school organizations. Charles was a team player and well loved person. During the transition of high schools, Charles was in the forefront of basketball and football team championship and playoff games.
After high school, Charles attended Southern University A&M College, Baton Rouge, in Mechanical Engineering. During his course in life, Charles joined the United States Army National Guard 205th Engineering Battalion Combat Heavy and certified as an interior electrician. Charles attended Delgado Community College, New Orleans and received his journeyman license in sheet metal and specialty skills of architectural drafting, design and drawing.
Charles was employed with Crown Zellerbach and Thomas Sheet Metal. He later relocated to Texas and employed with Nuclear Plant (Bay City, Texas) and a supervisor at Carlon Pipe Plant (Houston, Texas). He was formerly married to Ruth Bickham Martin.
Charles was a loving, caring, charismatic, and straghtforward person, with a great sense of humor and a good heart. Charles enjoyed fellowshipping with people and his favorite past time was playing family games and dominoes.
Charles Anthony Martin leaves to cherish his memories: two children Jene' Rovella Martin and Charles Anthony Martin, Jr. of Angie; four sisters: Thelma (Eric) Cousin of Angie; Shirley (Julius) Jackson; Brenda (Robert) Robinson, all of Bogalusa, La. Tracy Martin of Angie; two brothers: Luther Jr. (Donna) Martin of Beaumont, Tx.; Steven (Sheronda) Martin of St. Louis, MO; one god-daughter: Lauren Martin of Houston, Tx; an embraced brother, Andre' (Beverly) Hector, New Waverly, Tx.;and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Charles A. Martin was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Rovella Harry Martin, one brother, Jerry Lester Martin, and grandparents.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Wesley Ray U.M.C. from 9-11a.m. following the funeral service. Rev. Terrence August, Officiating. Interment Jefferson Cemetery
