Obituary

Birdie Mae Parker Martin was born on November 11, 1919 to Narice Parker in Slidell, La. She was the first of eleven children. Although she was born in Slidell, she lived most of her childhood in Poplarville, Ms.
Mrs. Birdie became a Christian at an early age and served the Lord throughout her lifetime. As an adult she lived in Angie, La. and worshiped at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church until illness caused her to worship at home. During her stewardship she served as President and member of the Usher Board and United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Birdie married Joeseph Martin of Angie and their pride and joy was their twelve children of whom eleven lived to reach maturity. She was known throughout the community for her wisdom and counseling. She was also a great cook with a never ending supply of food for all who came. Yearly, the community looked forward to her birthday and Christmas celebrations for both the good times and food.Mrs. Birdie leaves behind eleven of her twelve children; Joeseph Martin (Akron,OH); Elaine (Micheal) Raines, Akron, OH; Joyce (Thelton) Moses, Gulfport, Ms.; Charles (Carolyn) Martin, Angie, La.; Catherine Martin, Independence, La.; Elnora (Eddie Will) Collins, Angie, La.; Larry (Yvonne) Martin, Houston, Tx.; Jimmie (Shirley) Martin, Angie, La.; Paul (Gwen) Martin, Corpus Christi, Tx; Russell (Kimberly) Martin, Dallas, Tx. She also leaves 55 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Along with two brothers, ( June and Edward Bass); and three sisters, (Delores Jefferson, Elnora Robinson, Joan Patrick) to follow her into God's Kingdom.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Narice Bass, husband, Joseph H. Martin; her daughter, Nellie Faye Martin; her siblings Bertha Robinson, Murell Boykins, James Bass, Ellis Bass, Beulah Watts and Mary Ann Taylor.
