IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Lewis- Toney
September 19, 1949 – February 4, 2026
Obituary of the Late Betty Jean Toney
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
On September 19, 1949, God blessed Loyis and Essie Nichols Lewis with a beautiful daughter Betty Jean Lewis, who was born in Varnado, LA.
At an early age Betty accepted Christ in her life. She grew up as a member at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor A.L. Owens. Later Betty was united in holy matrimony to Bro. John Toney and they both moved their memberships to Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Rev. Dr. A.S. Nelson.
Sis Toney was known by many as "Betty Jean" or "Bet". She was a homemaker. Her daily occupation was to be a loving and devoted wife, and a loving, nurturing and attentive mother of her six beautiful children. Sis. Betty Jean shared her sweet spirit with her siblings, other family members, friends, and neighbors all over. She was caring, compassionate, loving, supportive and most of all she was a child of God, a woman of faith and a prayer warrior. Betty Jean later in life became grandmother and she had no problem spoiling them.
On February 4, 2026, God sent His Angels to Lakeview Medical Center in Covington, LA to relieve his faithful servant,Betty Jean Toney from her labor here on earth in order to receive her heavenly reward.
Betty Jean's parents, Loyis and Essie Nichols Lewis; two brothers, Luther Earl Lewis, and Richard Dean Lewis; two sisters, Loretta Pittman and Lela Mae Ratliff; maternal grandparents, Clenevis and Lorena Nichols; paternal grandparents, Luther and Lonie Lewis; mother and father-in-law Ida and John West Toney; seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, all proceeded her in death.
